It’s March 5; Good Morning Union

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart….” Proverbs 3:5

There are SO many proverbs that are great but I’m just looking for the cream of the crop to fix in my mind or at least know where they are so I can more easily have them as a resource as needed. Probably the most famous proverb is 3:5,6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and he will direct your paths.” But in starting through the proverbs this morning I rediscovered that there are actually 18 “commands” in this same chapter equally powerful and clearly directive in helping me understand how to focus my journey on Jesus and His ways. Don’t worry, I’m not going to expound on all of them, but I was encouraged with their wisdom as I read them again this morning:
“My son (and daughter):
1. Don’t forget my teachings
2. Keep my commands in your heart
3. Let love and faithful never leave you
4. Trust in the Lord with all your heart…
5. In all your ways acknowledge Him…
6. Do not be wise in your own eyes
7. Fear the Lord (aka Respect the Lord)
8. Shun evil
9. Honor the Lord with your wealth
10. Do not despise the Lord’s discipline
11. Do not resist His rebukes
12. Preserve sound judgment and discernment
13. Have no fear of surrounding and sudden disasters
14. Do not withhold good from those who deserve it
15. Do not say to your neighbor, ‘Come back later; I’ll give it to you tomorrow’- when you have it with you now
16. Do not plot harm against your neighbor
17. Do not accuse a man for no reason
18. Do not envy a violent man or choose any of his ways

I try and imagine what would happen if I used those guidelines to help me live, and what I conclude is that life would be a whole lot better! And how much better would it be? Solomon gives the following “rewards” for these behaviors:

1. They will prolong my life many years
2. They will bring me prosperity
3. I will win favor and a good name
4. He will direct my paths
5. They will bring health to my body, and nourishment to my bones
6. My barns (or maybe today my bank account?!) will be filled to overflowing
7. They will give life and safety
8. My foot will not stumble
9. I will not be afraid
10. My sleep will be sweet
11. I will have confidence
12. I will be taken into His confidence

I’m just sayin’, when I ask for clarity in God’s word, He comes through with clarity!!

Have a great day trusting and acknowledging God (and all the other things!) and discover the rewards in your own life,
Pastor Rich
