40 Days of Prayer- Day 22

“I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able…” 2 Timothy 1:12

Today’s entry for our “40 days experience” is about Esther which is a story that I still struggle with so am not going to write about it! Instead I’m falling back to Sunday’s entry because it contains I think my favorite verse in all the Bible. “I know Whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I commit unto Him.”

Paul was writing from the Mamertine Prison in Rome to his dear young friend Timothy. Paul was imprisoned for no reason except that he was a Christian! IF I were in prison and had a chance to write a note to someone I think it would have some element of “poor me,” “help!” or something like that. With that context every time I read his letters to Timothy I am blessed by his positive attitude, his other-centeredness, and his confidence that God had not left him alone. I find his strength in verse 12:

1. I know- he had “put his time in” with God and His word to have confidence. Not “I hope,” or even “I believe.” It was I KNOW!
2. Whom- it’s not what I know but WHOM I know that makes all the difference in the world
3. I am persuaded that HE IS ABLE- connection with God had given Paul ample evidence of what He was able to do. Paul may not have understood all about God’s timing but he knew what God could do when He knew it was best. Do a search in your on-line Bible for ABLE… GOD IS ABLE etc and discover some amazing things that God says He is ABLE to do for us!! That could be two weeks of GMUs!!
4. To keep what I commit to Him—there’s the catch. I have to be willing to surrender myself to Him; to give HIM my plans, my life, my choices, as Ellen White says, “To be given up or carried out as His will indicates.”

If I want to see what God is able to do for me I have to put forth the effort to get to know Him and then be willing to give myself to Him. THEN He can act as He sees fit and He WILL win. Paul got it, even from prison. I pray that I (and you) will “get it” too, hopefully without prison!!

Have a great day being convinced of God’s abilities,
Pastor Rich
